Bill Hald is an accomplished sculptor and foundry man who lives in Grass Valley, California located in the northern foothills of the Sierra Nevadas with his wife, Camille, who helps to inspire and market his creations. During is career of 30+ years, he has signed his work: Wm Hald, Bill Hald, and Wm Jay Hald.
Made in America, within his own foundry, he sculpts and oversees the molding, casting, cleaning up and the final patination of his pieces, thus assuring quality control at its highest. He casts sculptures in both bronze and tin. Conscious of toxins, he elected to use tin since it does not contain lead like pewter. Although tin is two to three times as expensive as bronze in raw form, the labor is not as intensive or costly as bronze hence less expensive. Soon more sculptures in tin will be posted on the website. On the patination of some of the pieces he has integrated a powder-coating process as well.
Furthermore, his wife served as an inspiration to gift the art world a fragile-looking, realistic bearded iris. She calls it her forevermore flower. It took his mold and casting expertise to birth it forth in bronze, due to its complexity. Coming soon will be an iris in tin that will be enhanced in color.
Throughout the years, he has for the most part realistically sculpted birds of prey to the point that he now says “I am so tired of feathers, I am ready for a different kind of wlldlife...nudes!” Garden Party is a hint of things to come. Whether it be a nude or a bust, vivid expression and detail will be its focus.
Over the years, his sculptures have been prized and displayed around the country. His creations are owned by individuals such as Sylvester Stallone, Peter Uberroth and Rudolph Giullani. In the past, he has shown his works at the Peterson Gallery and Wally Findley Gallery in Beverly Hills, the New Masters Gallery in Carmel, and the Dale Evers Gallery in Morro Bay. Many Fortune 500 companies have acquired his works of fine art to be displayed in their lobbies and office vestibules. His pieces have also been purchased and placed at Chapman College, Orange, California, and the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala, Florida. In addition, his work has been bought by the Norton Simon Museum Corporate Headquarters in New York City. Albeit a lot of his work has been wildlife, he ventured into his love of the human form due to a commission of two gymnasts from a board member of the U.S. Gymnastics Federation. The gymnasts were put on display at their corporate-base offices.
An olympian event holds a special place in Bill's memory. The setting was Casa Pacifica - Nixon's Western White House. He was there for the unveiling of two of his large sculptures from the edition of American Fisherman that were purchased by members of the LAOOC to present to Peter Ueberroth and Harry Usher for their Olympic leadership. While in attendance, he was commissioned to sculpt an eagle to help raise funds for America's Cup endeavors.
Most recently, as a veteran still inspired to serve his county, he has released Never, Fellow Patriots, Forget - a 360º patriotic totem offered at a gift price directly to the public. This particular piece due to its pricing will not be sold retail lest it cost two to three as much as its opening price. The Hald’s hope that it may also be purchased to be used as a fund raiser for various causes.
